General
On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, RARE-NL and its local partner Medicijn voor de Maatschappij will host an inspiring afternoon on drug repurposing at Amsterdam UMC: Drug Repurposing with a Purpose: Pathways to Sustainable Patient Access.
We warmly invite you to join us.
Drug repurposing is a prominent area of activity within Amsterdam UMC, with researchers across a wide range of disciplines exploring new uses for existing medicines. However, it is often unclear which pathway is best suited to ensure that promising repurposing initiatives ultimately reach patients in a sustainable manner.
During this afternoon, we will address key questions concerning regulatory approval, reimbursement, valorisation and societal responsibility. RARE-NL will also bring together researchers, clinicians, regulators, policymakers and support professionals working in this field to exchange experiences and share knowledge.
What can you expect?
- An introduction to the key concepts and requirements for drug repurposing
- Practical examples from Amsterdam UMC researchers
- An exploration of different pathways to patients, including registration through established market parties, the creation of new companies and off-label use
- Opportunities to network and explore new collaborations
