The PRECISE consortium led by Professor Jolanda van der Velden has been awarded over 7 million euros for groundbreaking research into inherited heart diseases. The consortium, funded by NWO and the Dutch Heart Foundation, brings together experts from cardiology, genetics, physiology, data science, health economics, and education, amongst others.
Four main objectives
The aim of the consortium is to improve detection, risk prediction, and treatment of inherited heart diseases. The research focuses on four main objectives:
•DETECT: Identifying barriers to genetic screening and developing interventions for earlier detection.
•RISK: Using multimodal models to better predict risk and translate findings into clinical guidelines.
•HIT: Mapping treatment effectiveness based on genetic and personal factors, and exploring new treatment options.
•IMPACT: Assessing societal disease burden and cost-effectiveness, and developing information for patients and healthcare providers.
Unique collaboration
The consortium collaborates closely with (international) partners, patient organizations, companies, and experts by experience. The unique collaboration between pediatric and adult cardiology, supported by the Hartedroom Foundation, is crucial for bridging research and clinical practice.

KIC
This project is part of the KIC Partnership “Together for a better life with hereditary heart disease”, a collaboration between NWO and the Dutch Heart Foundation. The results will contribute to improved care, earlier detection, and a better quality of life for patients with inherited heart diseases.
