Amsterdam Public Health (APH) invites researchers to apply for the Resilient Societies Booster Grants 2026, with a maximum value of €5.000. With this APH Booster Grant, we aim to stimulate research that strengthens the resilience of society within the field of public health. We are looking for proposals in which an existing research project is strengthened by adding a resilience-focused component, recognizing that resilience can be addressed at different levels, including individuals, communities, systems, and environments. The Booster plan may involve active engagement between researchers and citizens, community partners, or other stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions to current public health challenges.

Scope

The APH Resilient Societies Booster Grant supports the addition of a resilience-focused component to an existing research project. The APH Resilient Societies Booster Grants are intended for research projects that:

  • Strengthen the resilience of citizens and communities in the face of health crises, social, or societal challenges.
  • Actively involve citizens, patients, or other target groups through co-creation, participatory research, citizen science, or empowerment.
  • Foster new forms of collaboration between science, policy, and practice.
  • Contribute to adaptive capacity, social cohesion, inclusivity, or reducing inequalities in resilience.

Below are examples of activities related to resilient societies that may be included in a Booster plan: 

  • Co-creation activities where researchers and citizens jointly develop solutions to local health challenges.
  • Participatory research focusing on the needs and resilience of vulnerable groups during crises.
  • Empowerment programs that support citizens in taking greater control of their health or living environment.
  • Development of tools, trainings, or campaigns that support crisis communication, behavioral change, or counter misinformation.
  • Activities aimed at strengthening social cohesion, inclusion, and participation in neighborhoods or communities.

Booster plan 

Fill in the booster plan application form including a title, motivation, description of the planned activities, and budget plan. Before submitting, consult your supervisor(s) or other relevant colleagues about the feasibility of your booster plan.

Please complete and submit this form before Monday, October 12, 2026, (11.00 hrs).

All booster plans will be judged on eligibility by the APH Support Office based on the conditions below. You will be informed latest end of October, whether your booster plan will participate in the random selection lottery during the plenary closing ceremony at the APH Annual Meeting.   

Conditions

  • Your booster plan fits within the ‘Resilient Societies’ scope as described above and is feasible.
  • Your booster plan should be executed and the budget must be spent before 1 December 2027.
  • Only actual costs made as laid out in the budget plan will be paid/reimbursed.
  • You are a junior or midcareer researcher affiliated with APH (checked in PURE, see affiliation instructions here).
  • You are present at the Annual Meeting in the morning to submit a printout of your booster plan. This is not applicable for APH researchers primarily based abroad (i.e. external/international PhD candidates and postdocs) and are not able to attend the meeting in person.
  • You are present at the Annual Meeting’s closing ceremony during the plenary afternoon session to receive the grant if you are randomly selected. If you are not present, another booster plan will be selected. This is not applicable for APH researchers primarily based abroad (i.e. external/international PhD candidates and postdocs) and are not able to attend the meeting in person.
  • You can submit only one booster plan.
  • Each booster plan should be unique, the same proposal cannot be submitted multiple times by different applicants.
