The ‘Nationale Intensive Care Evaluatie’ (NICE; national intensive care evaluation) takes care of the continuous and complete registration of all available data of the participating intensive care units in the Netherlands, with the goals to monitor and optimize the quality of the IC care.

It is founded by the profession of intensivists for intensivists. At the moment all Dutch IC’s are cooperating to this initiative. Every year data from approximately 80,000 new IC admissions are added to the NICE database.

The continuous and complete registration and the interactive character gives the opportunity to identify and analyze quality problems. Moreover, the effect from the taken measures can be evaluated. Participants can follow their own performance for different patient populations and/or can compare this to the national average or other benchmarks.

The NICE registry is a valuable instrument for the quality assurance of IC care in the Netherlands. Moreover, the NICE registry is an important source for research.

You can find more information on the NICE registry website (in Dutch).
