This year the Order of Orange-Nassau is awarded to a number of Amsterdam UMC reseachers. Within ACS, Dink Legemate and Jan Piek received the award for their longstanding contribution to Dutch society.

Professor of vascular surgery Dink Legemate was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Under his leadership, Vascular Surgery and Surgery in Amsterdam UMC have grown to become leaders in the field of surgery, said Utrecht mayor Sharon Dijksma. Legemate conducted groundbreaking research, played a major role in promoting shared decison making and was a pioneer within his profession in the introduction and application of evidence-based medicine.

Professor of interventional cardiology and director of the Heart Center Jan Piek is also an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau as of last Monday. He has treated thousands of patients and as a researcher has achieved groundbreaking results. Piek also received his award for his work as chairman of the church council at the Protestant Thomaskerk.
