Goal

The AI&I Collaboration Grant is designed to encourage new collaborations between AI&I researchers (Post-docs and PI's), and requires the involvement of at least two research groups from different departments.

Topics can be

  • Pilot experiments and studies to facilitate joint grant applications
  • Increase quality of research by joint knowledge and resources within AI&I
  • Develop new techniques

This may result in a new

  • Collaborative network
  • Collaborative research line
  • External grant proposal

What can be applied for

A fixed budget of 20.000 euro covering expenses related to carrying out the project (salary costs are excluded).

Eligibility criteria

  • The proposal must involve a new collaboration between AI&I researchers from at least two different departments.
  • Applicants must hold a PhD.
  • A collaboration is considered new if there have been no joint publications between the involved groups in the past five years (except reviews).
  • A researcher may only be involved in one application. 
  • A proposal can be submitted by a maximum of three researchers.
  • The project may start in January 2027 and the expenses must be declared by November 15th 2027.
  • The applicants need to illustrate how their project will strengthen new collaboration within the AI&I research institute.
  • Applicants on temporary contracts must be employed in 2027. 

Important dates

  • Deadline project proposals: October 15th, 2026; 23:59h
  • Outcome: December 2026

Projects will be evaluated based on the following criteria

  • Quality of the work plan (40%)
  • Contribution of each applicant and presence of the necessary expertise for the project (40%)
  • Motivation of grant proposal (20%)

A total of five grants will be awarded

Requirements after obtaining the AI&I Collaboration Grant

  • Submission of a scientific final report explaining how the grant stimulated the new collaboration and the archieved results
  • Willingness to give a presentation on the project outcomes funded by a Collaboration Grant when requested by AI&I.
  • Refer to the Al&l Collaboration Grant in the acknowledgements of any publications resulting from the research performed funded by this grant by adding "This research was supported by a Collaboration Grant of the Amsterdam institute for Immunology and Infectious diseases” to the acknowledgements.
  • Refer to Amsterdam institute for Immunology and Infectious diseases in communications about this grant ( e.g. in the (social-) media, in presentations, posters, or pitches).
