Focus of research

My overall research objective is to improve the understanding of how sex steroids influence resilience and vulnerability in women developing psychopathology. I am driven to contribute to better healthcare for both men and women by combining clinical insights with epidemiological research.

Thanks to a personal MD-PhD grant, I was able to combine my medical studies with a PhD trajectory, including the Epidemiologist B program at the University of Groningen. During my PhD, I studied the influence of sex steroids on depression. This work resulted in 11 peer-reviewed publications and several (inter)national collaborations, including with Leiden University Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, and the University of British Columbia, culminating in a cum laude PhD thesis in 2021.

Since 2023, I have been training as a psychiatry resident at Amsterdam University Medical Center. This enables me to directly integrate my clinical experience with my ongoing research activities.
