Understanding and managing the context of public health research (what & why)

Becoming a leader in the public health and care research domain requires more than being an excellent scientist. In addition to acquiring competencies concerning content, one also needs the knowledge, skills and tools to understand and manage the context. Therefore, the Netherlands School of Public Health and Care Research (CaRe), in which APH is a partner organization, has established an internationally oriented Public Health and Care Research Leadership Program of which the first edition started in 2021. The second edition will start in July 2022.

The new leaders in public health research (who)

The program is intended for postdoctoral researchers with more than 5 years’ experience, who have the ambition to improve their knowledge and skills to become leading researchers in public health and care research. From APH, 3-5 researchers can participate in the second edition of the two year program.* APH will cover €7,000 of the program’s registration fee. A contribution of €1,500 of the candidate’s department is required. Overnight stays of €80—€125 per night are not included and must be paid by the candidate.

How to join (how)

Interested researchers who meet the criteria can register before February 2, 2022 by writing to aph@amsterdamumc.nl with the following 5 documents: (1) motivation letter candidate, (2) motivation letter direct supervisor, (3+4) two reference letters, and (5) CV demonstrating the candidate’s research track record, current and future research activities and leadership experience. A review committee will review all potential candidates for intrinsic motivation for participation, leadership development potential, and academic quality of candidate based on CV.
