They investigate these cells in the context of a rare genetic disease: Megalencephalic Leukoencephalopathy with subcortical Cysts. In a recently published perspective article in Nature Reviews Neurology, they present a novel insight into the origin of multiple sclerosis (MS), centered around these astrocytes.
