On March 27, 2025, Professor Annemieke Rozemuller bid farewell during her valedictory speech at the VU Amsterdam. Her farewell lecture, entitled "Neurodegeneration: Is it Solvable?", was continued by a festive honoring, where Rozemuller was appointed Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion for her extensive contributions to neuropathology and neurodegenerative disease research.

With a medical career spanning more than a quarter century, Rozemuller has been a prominent figure in neuropathology, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

In her farewell speech, Rozemuller emphasized the critical role of neuropathologists in diagnosing post-mortem brain tissue. She highlighted the importance of collaboration with clinicians, radiologists, and clinical chemists to enhance diagnostics, gain new insights for future therapies, and identify new diseases. ​

Rozemuller's dedication to neuropathology has been instrumental in advancing the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. Her efforts have significantly contributed to the improvement of diagnostic techniques and the exploration of potential therapies, leaving a lasting impact on the medical community.
