Research Policy Office
The central Research Policy Office (RPO) is responsible for the preparation, coordination and implementation of research policy within the mission and ambitions of Amsterdam UMC, Research Support and the Research strategy. The RPO team consists of policy advisors with a background in research and specific expertise on particular policy themes to contribute to central policy related to the research strategy and quality and evaluation cycles, talent and career development, sustainability in research, gender equality and diversity and inclusion, responsible academic conduct and research integrity and the use of lab animals and animal-free innovations in research.
Vision
The central policy advisors of RPO are committed to creating a stimulating, inclusive and responsible research environment for ground-breaking scientific research within Amsterdam UMC and its partners.
We promote the development of researchers and the field of science. We connect the dots between policy themes and implement fairness, inclusion and sustainability in research policy and procedures.
We do this on the basis of the complementary professional competencies and thematic expertise within the central policy department. We strive for high quality, efficiency and visibility to help enable Amsterdam UMC to reach its potential in research and contributing to an environment in which science and scientific researchers can flourish.
Positioning
The Research Policy Office is part of Research Support. Our role is to proactively provide advice and support to the Management Team and advisory boards and committees to the Board of Directors of Amsterdam UMC, in specific the Amsterdam Research Board, Committee for Talent & Appointments and the Amsterdam UMC Fellowship and Tenure Track committee (see Talent policies and services). We cooperate and exchange knowledge with our internal partners and on the national level with the policy advisors of other universities, in particular the UvA and VU, and other university medical centres within the context of the UMCS of the Netherlands.
Activities
We proactively connect to our target groups, in particular on our domains of expertise. We do this for example by organizing inspiration and discussion meetings on sustainability, research integrity and activities for postdocs and reaching out to researchers and their group leaders (PIs) to raise awareness about new policy developments in research and about the grant rounds and nominations for prizes that we coordinate. Together with the Domains and Services of Research Support and eight Research Institutes, Doctoral School and Amsterdam Research BV, the Research Policy Office contributes to offering optimal support to researchers of Amsterdam UMC.
